We see a world where all beings can thrive.
Our mission is to improve the well-being of society by increasing understanding and appreciation of the factors that lead to life satisfaction, resilience and sustainability. In addition to economic status, we focus on examining sectors that span social, environmental and governance quality.
We provide tools, resources and knowledge to foster grassroots activism for a world where all beings can thrive. With our partners, we explore, discover and innovate in the happiness movement. Our strategy is emergence. We ask "What is being called for now?" We keep it real.
Our history in a nutshell
The Happiness Alliance, home of The Happiness Initiative and Gross National Happiness (GNH) Index is a deeply grassroots organization. The Gross National Happiness Index is directly inspired by Bhutan and was first issued by us as Sustainable Seattle's fifth set of sustainability indicators in 2010 for use by communities, cities, campuses and companies worldwide. In 2012, we spun-off from Sustainable Seattle and emerged as a not-for-profit serving individuals and groups, from municipalities to teams, with tools and resources including the Gross National Happiness Index.
